BLUE MARLIN The Blue Marlin most frequent of the marlins taken in Costa Rica. Three to five hundred pound blue marlin are frequently landed. Several blue marlin over 900 lbs have been taken in Costa Rica waters. The world record Blue Marlin is 1402 lbs.
BLACK MARLIN The Black Marlin second most frequent of the marlins taken in Costa Rica. Several Black Marlin over 700 lbs. have been caught in Costa Rica. The world record Black Marlin is 1560 lbs.
STRIPED MARLIN The Striped Marlin is the Costa Rica Grand Slam Fisherman’s dream. Striped Marlin are brilliant fighters averaging around 150 to 200 lbs. The world record Striped Marlin is 224 lbs. WHITE MARLIN Last but not least is the White Marlin. White Marlin have been hooked in Costa Rica when fishing for Rooster fish or Wahoo. The world record White Marlin is 181 lbs.
COSTA RICA DORADO / DOLPHIN FISH There is also Costa Rica Dorado or Dolphin fish. The Dolphin fish is a great fighter and an even better eater! The world record Dolphin is 87 lbs.
OTHER VARIETIES Costa Rica fishing varieties also include; Snook, Tarpon, abundant Sail Fish, Wahoo, Roosterfish, a variety of Snapper, Grouper, Blue Runners, Rainbow Runners, and giant Yellow Fin Tuna. Costa Rica Tuna fishing can start 30 minutes or less from the beach, and schools of 12 to 20 Tuna further out, often anglers hit concentration of 40 to 60 pound tuna, and Costa Rica big game fishing boast 200 lb to 400 lb Tuna caught every year.
